Abstract:

The purpose of this application, under Article 19.2, is to conserve the widely used specific name Lema decempunctata Gebler, 1829. In the original publication, the printed name clearly reads “L. ropunctata”. Nearly all subsequent taxonomists have interpreted this spelling as an error of the typesetter and have used the epithet decempunctata instead. Therefore, the Commission is requested to rule under the plenary power that decempunctata should be regarded the original spelling with Gebler, 1829 as the original author.

Abstract:

The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature has conserved the spelling of the specific name of Lema decempunctata Gebler, 1829. The name was originally published as “L. ropunctata”, but prevailing usage is of the spelling decempunctata as the former has been regarded by most subsequent taxonomists as a typesetting error.
