The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature has used its plenary power to conserve the specific names of two species of agriculturally important cochineal scale insect, Dactylopius coccus Costa, 1829 and Dactylopius tomentosus (Lamarck, 1801), by suppressing the senior subjective synonyms Coccus sativus Lancry, 1791 and Coccus mexicanus Lamarck, 1801 for the former, and Coccus silvestris Lancry, 1791 for the latter.
