Abstract:

The trilobite genus Brachypleura Angelin, 1854 (type species Remopleurides sexlineatus, Angelin, 1851) is a homonym of Brachypleura Günther, 1862 applied to a species of flounder, and has priority over the latter. The holotype of the type species of Brachypleura is well preserved and was figured by Nikolaisen (1983). Brachypleura Angelin, 1854 is not synonymous with the trilobite genus Amphitryon Hawle & Corda, 1847. Sculptaspis Nikolaisen, 1983 is a junior subjective synonym of Brachypleura Angelin, 1854. The details of the publications by Nils Peter Angelin (1851–52, 1854, 1878) are discussed in detail.
