Elie Mario Saliba is a Lebanese and French systematic biologist with a strong interest in zoological nomenclature and biodiversity informatics. His research focuses on the formalization and management of nomenclature across different taxonomic databases, including ZooBank. In addition to his taxonomic and nomenclatural work, he is actively involved in the development of tools and methodologies to integrate nomenclature within biodiversity data infrastructures
Summary of Research & Education:
Elie obtained his Ph.D. in 2023 at Sorbonne Université & Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris, with a thesis titled Understanding and managing Zoological Nomenclature in the era of Big Data and Open Science. Following his doctorate, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher under the e-COL+ project, which explores the intersection of natural history collections and artificial intelligence at Sorbonne Université. He is currently employed by the French node of GBIF, contributing to biodiversity data management and nomenclatural standardization. Elie regularly teaches zoological nomenclature, database management and biodiversity informatics courses both in France and abroad.
He is an editor for Bionomina and is actively engaged in the BIS-TDWG community. He is fluent in Arabic, French, and English and collaborates internationally to enhance the accessibility and interoperability of taxonomic information.
