Sandra Knapp is a botanist from the Natural History Museum, London; she came to London in 1992 to manage the international project Flora Mesoamericana - a synoptic inventory of the approximately 18,000 species of plants of southern Mexico and the isthmus of Central America. In addition to Flora Mesoamericana, her work includes a world-wide taxonomic monograph of the megadiverse genus Solanum (Solanaceae), collaborative research in phylogenetics and genomic evolution of Solanaceae, and the production of field guides for use in biodiversity monitoring in the Neotropics. She is the President of the Bureau of Nomenclature for the 2011 International Botanical Congress in Melbourne, Australia, and a Council Member of the IAPT (International Association for Plant Taxonomy).
